Not all morphemes are word by themselves! Ex: helper has 2 morphemes help and er . Ex: the bike talked the boy into buying a candy bar: this sentence is syntactically correct but semantically incorrect because bikes don"t talk, pragmatics is the appropriate use of language in different contexts. Ex: you apply the pragmatics of english when you use: pragmatics polite language in appropriate situations, such as: talking to your teacher, telling stories that are interesting, jokes that are funny, and lies that are convincing. In each of these cases, you are demonstrating that you understand the rules of your culture for adjusting language to suit the context.
