Attribution theory- how people understand the causes of events. A rational process can be formulated describing how people ought to interpret the behavior of others (and oneself) People are sometimes capable of approximating this rational process (with sufficient time and motivation) More typically, people"s attribution are incomplete --overly influenced by salient info, affect, mental shortcuts The tendency to attribute behavior to element of character, even when powerful situational forces are at play. People assume that hostile behavior indicates a hostile disposition even when plausible situational explanations for behavior exist. I smell a communist res a pro or ant essay of castro ( told that the person writing it had a choice, or was forced to write it) When told that someone was told to write the essay they think then that the person didn"t reflect their believes in the paper. Subjects randomly assigned to be questioner, contestant or observer in quiz game.
