Almost like smaller animals that make up a larger animal. Very sophisticated way of communicating with each other. Even the membrane of neurons is special. Actually appearance of the cell bodies can vary. *entire neuron is very much like a small computer. Geometry of the neurons & where the signals come from on the dendrites -> affects the computations. Send information to the cell body where it is integrated. Able to change in real time -> not absolutely fixed. Small changes in where signals come on the dendrites means big changes for the way that signals are computed. Creates on output based on all of the inputs. Can be connected to variety of different neurons &/or parts of the brain. Connect to the dendrites of other neurons. Part of nervous system outside of the brain & spinal cord. Cells also wrap themselves around the axon. Different type of cell that create myelin sheath.
