2/17/15: freud disciples, neo-freudians-followers who broke with freud in signi cant ways, but maintained basic psychodynamic orientation. Broke with freud to form own analytical psychology: deeply spiritual/mystical. Raised in a very religious house: collective unconscious. Emphasis on ego drive rather than id drives. Problems people have is really about inferiority, not feeling good about oneself and feeling inferior to someone else. Striving for security: moving toward, moving against, moving away. Early childhood 1-3 anal autonomy vs. shame and doubt will. Play age 3-6 phallic initiative vs. guilt purpose. School age 6-12 latency industry vs. inferiority competence. Freud"s view of human nature was essentially negative-sel sh and pessimistic. If unrestrained by consequences and society people would pursue grati cation. Psychopathology almost inevitable: humanistic psychologists" view of human nature is essentially positive--sel ess and optimistic. Human beings have an innate tendency to move toward growth and maturity, to ful ll their potential.
