Wanting (nacc - nucleus accumbens >> level of dopamine) High level of dopamine = more motivation. Low order needs are necessary before higher order needs. Facial expressions: people of diff. ages have similar ones. Universality: begins at a very early age, cross-cultural. Despite not seeing certain groups before, we can identify their facial expressions. Supported by the fact that blind people also express these emotions as well. Social and cultural influence: how you express yourself in public, how expressive you are in western countries vs. eastern countries, etc. Japanese tend to be more expressive alone, and hiding emotions when with other people, while. Americans make same expressions regardless of who they"re with/if they"re alone. Common sense: stimulus -> emotion -> body. James-lange theory: stimulus -> body (specific) -> emotion.
