We tend to remember concrete words rather than abstract words. Concrete - tangible objects ex) flower, guitar. Abstract - not tangible (we know the meaning of it, but hard to form a picture of) Mnemonic devices - memory techniques that use memory and organization. Method of loci - visualize each item that you want to remember in a different. Each location is mentally inspected and the item that was placed there is. Peg-word system - involves both visual and auditory cues. Requires a bit of learning before using this method. Spreading activation model - how info is stored in long term memory collins & loftus) How we conceptualize ideas that get stored in long term memory. Node - each piece of info in the network. Shorter the line = closer the concepts are to each other. Longer the line = the concepts are more distant from each other. When a node is activated, it can activate other nodes.
