Anxiety arises out of conflict between the id, ego, and superego. Fear of being overwhelmed by unacceptable id impulses (ego vs. id) Unconscious; we don"t know we are using them. Battling to keep a memory or wish from becoming conscious. Is a component of almost every other defense mechanism.
