Children whose parents use an elaborative, reminiscing style of communication will report more and fuller childhood memories. There is a cultural difference in mother-child communication styles. Western mothers tend to communicate in more elaborative and emotional way than eastern mothers (leichtman, wang & Harley & reese (1999) found that children"s ability to talk about past was much better among children whose mothers had an elaborative reminiscing style than among children whose mothers rarely talked about the past. It"s been found that adults from eastern cultures have a later age of first autobiographical memory than adults from western culture (pillemer, 1998) 5-year-olds took trip to jewish museum in new york (an archeology museum) Children tested for recall of details of trip immediately after trip, after 6 weeks, and after 1 year. Children easily recalled specific information about trip immediately afterward and after 6 weeks.
