Document Summary

Consc in animals/theory of mind: try explaining the color red to a blind friend, 2 types of cones (dichromats) can experience some but not all colors. Some animals vision is like this, where its based only on green and red: tetrschromats: 4 types of colors cones, can see ultraviolet. Nah: theory of mind, empathy, basically, babies aren"t born with this. Human deception is much more intentional than camouflage deception in animals. Plovers will act injured to lure the predators away from the nest. Humphrey says that consciousness arose from a need for social intelligence. Monkeys distract attention sneakily to steal food, but maybe theory of mind isnt necessary for theory of mind just because past experience could have trained behavior. Imitation: body language and empathy are closely linked. But thorndike said that learning is not the same thing as imitating. Imitating is learning to do something for real by only seeing it done.
