HumCore - Final Lecture
Review of the year:
Vo’s lectures focused on the top-down effect of empire on
people
Rahimieh - Iranian state
How do we resist?
Resistance of those who thrive or survive within an
imperialistic system. We resist when we shape our
identity and when we are told who we are.
Photographs and art used as a form of resistance
Empire has a lot of power, but Marin Chambi still had
influence and resisted even as just a citizen.
We take things for granted that are really simple,
because in this way people in power can maintain their
power, without having to justify themselves a lot.
We need to complicate our worldview because otherwise
people in power could manipulate people very easily
Gender Politics, how do women respond to patriarchal ideas?
Sharing one’s own perspective can impact many others,
who could join in because they have become conscious
of the same thing happening to them.
Balance between what would happen if there’s an immense
problem and creativity of the generation
Logic of empire still seems to dominate the world in ways
it has not before, yet the sheer force of that has made
people much more aware.
This generation people take on a political position of
love, in which you are accounting for another person
as they are meaningful to you, internal compassion.
This way, you can see new perspectives and that
creates a critical thinker, where you can think about
the logic of empire.
Humanities are very important, as critical thinking is
crucial. Other things like math and science are good for
progress, but not so much critical thinking.
Public v private expression of pessimism and optimism.
