The mdgs were created at the un national summit (2000) There are 8 mdgs and 15 core targets. Purpose to (cid:373)eet health (cid:374)eeds of world"s poorest cou(cid:374)tries. The 8 mdgs were developed by the united nations: eradicate hunger/poverty, achieve universal education, promote gender equality/empower, reduce child mortality. Improve maternal health: combat hiv/aids, malaria, and other diseases, ensure sustainability, develop global partnership for development. Goal 3: promote gender equality and empower women. Target 4: eliminate gender disparity in primary/secondary education by 2005, and in all levels of education by 2015. Then and now: 40% women employed outside agriculture, 20% women hold parliament and government job, although wo(cid:373)e(cid:374) a(cid:374)d you(cid:374)g girls are seei(cid:374)g opportu(cid:374)ities . Sub-saharan africa: 93 girls enrolled in primary school for every 100 boys. Asia: secondary and university access is still a major disparity. Women still have disadvantage when entering labor market. Target 6: reduce the maternal mortality ratio by 75, achieve universal access to reproductive health.
