Not only are inspections important, but also establishing an ongoing surveillance and response to foods is essential in discovering new pathogens. Across the us many food safety departments have had major budget cuts. When the economy slows down, government cuts budgets across the board for all ph measures , including food safety departments. Problems are apparent when there is a growing difference between what the fda recommends ph department have in full time workers, frequency inspections and compliance, and how much the ph departments can afford. Lack of knowledge of importance of ph departments, mostly in the environmental sector.
