Matters of fact and relations of ideas (hume"s fork) Directly come to us --- there immediately. Ex. the coffee cup; he can feel the cup, see the cup, and feel the warmth. Are copies of impressions, or mixtures of other ideas that can be traced back to impressions **** Ex. if he puts the coffee cup down, he can remember the weight of it in his hand, the warmth, the smell, but this is just a faint memory he has to think about. He can create a picture of it in his head when he closes his eyes. Combine the idea of a coffee cup with the idea of purple to mix the two -- and there were impressions that lead to this idea. Relations of ideas (knowledge before experience) judgements matters of fact (grounded in experience) Matters of fact are grounded on constant conjunction.
