Disengagement and activity theories: disengagement- elders mutual, functional withdrawal from society with advancing age. At home and with friends (work and relationships) Good for the worker to leave from the workforce because they don"t have the energy anymore. Good for the employer because that person will eventually have to leave possibly due to death. Natural to disengage from activities and the amount of relationships they have. Activity- elders must be active by maintaining social roles and interaction to age well. Hard to say that successful aging is staying active.
