Can be different ages for different careers, football, model, Age discrimination in employment: decision on the basis of age that disadvantage older workers in hiring, promotion, training opportunities, wages. Few exceptions- mostly with jobs that require high physical ability ( re ghter) East to make a law, hard to enforce it. Disengagement and activity theories: disengagement- elders mutual, functional withdrawal from society with advancing age. At home and with friends (work and relationships) Good for the worker to leave from the workforce because they don"t have the energy anymore. Good for the employer because that person will eventually have to leave possibly due to death. Natural to disengage from activities and the amount of relationships they have. Activity- elders must be active by maintaining social roles and interaction to age well. Hard to say that successful aging is staying active.
