Document Summary

The globalization of american or western cultural products has been very pervasive. But, globalization has witnessed the global diffusion of cultural products from many other countries, too. Indicates that globalized culture is not really homogenous (i. e. purely. It reflects many influences from many cultures. Yes, american culture does dominate global culture. United states is very multilingual, multicultural society. Immigrants often maintain cultural traditions, norms, and ideas. Implication: there is a lot of diversity even within the globally dominant. The homogenization thesis presents the recipients of global culture as very passive. This is not the case people don"t just passively absorb culture. Just because people come into contact with global culture doesn"t mean local cultures are not maintained. Example: india has a vibrant film industry bollywood . Hasn"t been wiped out by american films. Even when people accept global culture, it often gets localized in the process of being translated into local contexts.
