There"s a loophole in the 13th amendment that still allows us to have slavery because you can slave someone for a crime. To punish a rebel slave they separated you from your loved ones. Jefferson blamed king george for slavery (since he was raised by a black man) yet he was a slave himself. Many slaves died in transit from the slave trade. People where elbow to elbow and they where vomiting and urinating all over each other. Revised the articles of confederation, mainly written by james madison. Slavery allowed the north and the south to compromise. Although members of the revolutionary generation found it difficult to reconcile the institution of slavery with their libertarian ideals, most of them assumed that large numbers of blackes could not be assimilated into american society as equal citizens.
