It"s the biological medium for life on earth. Life (as we define it) cannot exist in the absence of water. Partial positive charge of h atoms in water are attracted to the partial negative charge of the atom of another polar compound. The polarity of water allows it to form hydrogen bonds with other water molecules. Hydrogen bonds contribute to the unique properties of water. Cohesion is the attraction of polar molecules to other identical polar molecules due to hydrogen bonding. Adhesion is the attraction of polar molecules to other different polar molecules due to hydrogen bonding. Water transport from roots to leaves in plants (cohesion and adhesion play a role in this) Heat is the measure of the total amount of kinetic energy due to motion. Temperature is a measurement of the intensity of heat. Specific heat is the amount of energy it takes to change the temperature of a substance by 1 degree celsius.
