Tremolo- a rapid back and forth repetition of one or two notes that give a sensation of trembling. Divides into three subunits (labeled a, b, and c) Sakura- a popular japanese folk tune with a sad sentiment. Extramusical- referring to an idea outside the sound. Pentatonic scales- a scale consisting of five tones. Theme and variations form- a form in which a theme is presented and then altered in some way, through harmony, melody, texture, dynamics, or some combination of these. After theme is played, master koto musician then performs six variations of it. Technique of right and left hand alternation results in the performance sounding as it was played by two musicians.
