73 views3 pages

Document Summary

The study of what is real; the study of things (appearance vs. reality) The study of knowledge and truth (knowledge vs. opinion, truth vs. error) Value theory (ethics, political philosophy, etc. ) (fact vs. value) There is a distinction between ethics and morality, morality is a sub group of ethics. Ethics study of behavior (good/bad character). Morality study of acts (right/wrong act) The premises of our reasoning are believable (warranted, justified), given what we already know or believe. Our reasoning is valid, which means that the premises we employ provide good grounds for accepting the conclusion we draw. The premises need to support the conclusion or it is not valid. Validity has to do with the form of the argument. The validity of the argument has nothing to do with whether the premises and conclusion are true or false. An argument consists of various premises and the conclusion. Read actively and sympathetically, with a purpose.
