Libelous poem against daughters of prominent pavian families. Eventually took a degree in law in 1731 at university of modena. Practiced law for a time as law clerk, lawyer, counselor & secretary. 1761: moved to france after fight with playwright carlo gozzi. Plays originally criticized as not being written in italian style. Wrote in french after move from italy to france. 1771: wrote play for marriage of king louis xvi & marie antoinette. Restored to widow after his death after revolution: "she is old she is seventy-six, and her husband has left her no heritage save his illustrious name, his virtues and his poverty.
