Document Summary

Draping is a sign of her interior ecstasy. She appears to be floating on a cloud in the background. Carved from stone but made to seem light. Her right hand rests on the fold, inactive vs the active motion of the drapery. Smooth folds, yet the clouds are very rough (light reflects off of it in a less intense way) Compare and contrast: two people cutting off heads. The women are passive in one, and really going at it in another. Both paintings the man is in the bed. Crap ton of blood in both, but on the left there is a red background oh wow. On the right the assistant is actually being useful. Caravaggio painting on the left vs artemisia gentileschi on the right. Female painter is much more violent in the description. Artemesia painted herself as judith, and painted another artist as the male. A violent psychological way to express how she wants to strike back.
