A&O SCI 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Subtropics, Industrial Revolution, Carbon Sink
Document Summary
Aos lab assignment #2: in the upper ocean, the subtropics have greater concentration of the cfc than the equator and the south pole. In the deep ocean there is great amount of cfc in deep northern atlantic and minimal amount in the southern part: cfc entered the surface ocean from the subtropics and flew to the equator and polar areas. Deep ocean has only the water in the south pole that holds small amount of cfc: both deep atlantic and pacific have small amount of cfc in the south pole. However, near the north pole deep atlatic holds great amount of cfc while deep pacific holds about none. As surface water sink and become deep water in na cfc is brought down to deep water: the patter of cfc clearly proves the sinking motion is happening in the na. In the deep ocean both have high distribution in np area due to sinking water.
