Document Summary

Importance: cholesterols taken up in the diet goes to the liver that monitors how much exogenous cholesterols it has/adapts to synthesis of cholesterols to appropriate amounts are made. Excess cholesterols are taken to li(cid:448)e(cid:396) (cid:449)he(cid:396)e it"s deg(cid:396)aded (cid:271)(cid:455) (cid:271)ile salt a(cid:374)d e(cid:454)(cid:272)(cid:396)eted th(cid:396)ough s(cid:373)all i(cid:374)testi(cid:374)e. Functions of cholesterol: vital constituent of cell membranes, precursor of steroid hormones/bile acids (necessary for metabolism of dietary fats), essential to life: deposition of cholesterol in arteries. Too much cholesterols give rise to variety of human diseases: heart disease, stroke, atherosclerosis all rise from deposition of cholesterols in arteries. Cholesterol is sent from by the chylomicrons of liver. Liver looks at dietary cholesterol/says there are 60 units of cholesterol. The organism needs 100 units need to synthesize 40 more. His point: when we take in too much cholesterols, we may overwhelm the ability of the system to deal with all of that extra.
