In addition to initiating the process of cultural mixture, or mestizaje, the spanish conquest began the process of segreation of the. Pond: 1492: beginning of exclusions from the pond. Through the conquest, the spaniards stole the pond from the indigenous populations of the caribbean, mexico, and the rest of latin america. The spaniards also excluded the indigenous populations from the pond of socio-economic and a political opportunity. Chicanas/os identify closely with indigenous peoples of mexico and the feel that spanish conquest set in motion fundamental social inequalities which persist the present day in mexico and latin america. I am joaquin fully embodies the idea of a chicano identity because the author proudly identify itself with the mexican indigenous culture.
