Iron stirrups (jurchin), iron tipped arrows (song), fire bombs (song gunpowder) Mongolian script by ghengis khan- first writing system created for the mongolian language. 1264 transferred capital to dadu (modern beijing) 1266 wrote letter to emperor of japan threatening to invade. 1271 adopted chinese name yuan for dynasty. 1276 defeated the southern song, 1274&81 mongols invaded japan. 2 men in high government positions, 1 mongol and 1 chinese. 1313-1320 ayurbarwada; reinstated civil service exams in 1315.
