Document Summary

Smaller distance for solar energy to travel through atmosphere. Smaller angle so solar energy is more concentrated in one area. Bigger distance for solar energy to travel through atmosphere. Air rises so needs something to replace it (same with sinking air) Ex: in afternoon air in central valley gets super hot and ocean cools air so strong wind. Cuz of coriolis, there are 3 convection cells per hemisphere. Westerlies (wind from the west) and trade winds. Energy transfer goes up to 100m in depth. Coriolis effect and water creates the eckman transport. Net transport of water is perpendicular to wind. Water from beneath comes up to replace it. Opposite of upwelling (water is pushed toward shore and pushed down) River water move away from shore so upweilling. Westerlies and trade winds and eckman transport leads to water mounding. Water mounding and gravity and coriolis effect leads to circular movement down the mound.
