Growing economic divide between rich and poor. 1975: shah palavi bans all opposition parties. Shah palavi"s regime becomes increasingly corrupt and extravagant/economically wasteful. Sufis strive to perfect their worship and obtain union with god through mystical contemplation. Sheikh/poet/jurist/mystic whose poems (ghazals) serve some of the predominant texts to which iranian classical music is set. Important sociopolitical changes in the aftermath of revolution.
