Document Summary

Partner 1 (liana liang) - the keeping room film notes. From the first screen, we know the setting of the 2015 movie, the keeping. In the deep south of the civil war, the sound of panting accompanies a scene of the dry. A black female slave carrying bushels of grain struggles as she walks in the scorching heat. Suddenly, a german shepherd dog appears in front of her and starts barking. The slave drops the bushel out of exhaustion and angrily barks back at the dog, as if she were fighting back. A menacing non-diegetic noise erupts and she looks up to see a carriage pulled by a male black slave (looking frightened, as if appalled she could do such a thing). We hear a sudden gunshot and suddenly a white woman in a dress screams, jumps out, and runs out of the carriage.
