GE CLST 73B Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Gamma Motor Neuron, Motor Neuron, Muscle Spindle
Document Summary
Lecture 2 outline - reflexes and control of movement. Compensating for load perturbations (errors in maintainning limb position) : Reflexes of cutaneous origin (skin, deep tissue). How does the nervous system produce muscle force. Grey matter is cell bodies white matter is tracks. Any axon that leaves grey matter will enter white matter. Motoneuron has to relay info via axon. To have a contraction you have to have force production (how many motor neurons you would need) Recruitment of more or less motor neurons which will activate muscle fibers makes contraction. Rate coding: causes already discharging motoneurons to discharge at a higher frequency. You will then get temporal summation of twitches and increased force production. Motor neurons distribute their axon to the entire pool so the recruitment is according to size. Small ones will get recruited first and innervate a few muscle fibers.
