GE CLST 73B Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Dorsal Root Of Spinal Nerve, Motor Neuron, Agonist

24 views2 pages

Document Summary

Motoneurons are the final common pathway - summates all the information and figures out what the output will be. Rhythmical movements (ex. flexion-extension of walking, chewing gum) Motor neurons are only located in lamina 9 of the spinal cord. Only incoming information comes through the dorsal root, which only has sensory axons. Dorsal ganglia is the powerhouse of the spinal cord, where neurons are made etc. Information leaves through the ventral root, which only has motor axons. Motor pool - for different muscles (ex. bicep motor pool, tricep motor pool, etc) retrograde tracing - used to find out where certain motoneurons are in the nervous system (dye) In order to produce movement you have to produce force. Motor unit- a single motoneuron and all the muscle fibers it innervates. Motor neurons in the pool aren"t all equal. Some are small and innervates only a few muscle fibers.
