Document Summary

Friendly fascism (reading he removed): predicted the rise of trump, basically. He spoke about the us and how it was moving towards a corporate power that led to a de-democratization of us power. He wrote this book before reagan was elected. So much of what charles peters said doesn"t necessarily fit the definition of neoliberalism. His manifesto is the third or fourth manifestation of neoliberalism. Many members of this group were journalists, and liberals in the new deal sense peter"s main concern was that he didn"t like unions. In some ways, unions were the main target of his manifesto. He thought unions supported lazy, incompetent people (teachers, etc. ). His group saw themselves as being independent of conservatives and liberals. A lot of what his party supported mirrors the ideas of the republican platform now. This manifesto was an example of the ideological shift taking place. He talks about 2 recessions: 1974/75 and 1980/82.
