HIST 5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Glossary Of Nazi Germany, Zyklon B, Zyklon
Document Summary
Hist 5- lecture #10- the mechanics of genocide. The nazis have already experimented with techniques of mass murder (face to face shooting, einsatzgruppen, euthanasia in germany, gassing for disabled and soviet prisoners of war) There has been an attempt to streamline operation, make it quicker, less cumbersome, less difficult to conceal, minimize the amount of squeamishness it takes germans to do it. Beginning of 1941- camp is being set up with the purpose being extermination/death camps. Having the machinery and mechanisms to kill are different from the concentration camps, there is a big distinction. Concentration camps were used for sinti roma, political prisoners, asocials, criminals, homosexuals) death rates in these places are high even though there is no gassings, they are worked to death and starved. Some of the highest rates of death are in gay men because they are experimented on and persecution, higher than the death rate for pows.
