Ornaments
Male v Male Competition for female preference
What are females getting out of this? Why are they choosing these bizarre traits for their mate?
A lot of the ornaments are costly either genetically or energetically. In doing so, the males are
displaying that they have good genes and they are telling the females that their offspring will get
good genes.
These males do not help with raising offspring
The “Sexy-Son Hypothesis” they want their sons to have these ornaments because they
want their kids to have a lot of mates as well and the females genes will also spred into
the next generation
A lizards bobbing dewlap is an example of a signal.

The difference in size between male and female gametes

25% of the animals body mass (ejaculate for some animals)
Population Ecology

Can look at ranges at different levels
Measure neighbor distance find an individual and measure the distance to its nearest
neighbor. Then measure the ratio
