Scientific Method

• Optimizing a trait → how many times it evolved and where it evolved

• “Significant” is in terms of statistics

What properties do living things share?

• The ability to evolve

• The ability to use information

• Cell theory

• Homeostasis

• Reproduction

What causes speciation? → still a big debate

Evolution

• Darwins definition → descent with modification

• Evolution → change through time

• Law of superposition → newer stuff tends to be on top

• Tetrapod → 4 footed

• Common Ancestry → a piece of evidence for this is Vestigial traits ( parts that are no

longer/ barely used)

• “id argue that on a molecular level that pseudo genes are vestigial genes”

• “One bone, two bones, many bones”
