Why is love good: if you look around you, your friends and family are deeply impacted by love, speakers in symposium all stand up in term and try to give an account of why love is good. Task is to make sense of the question: rst three speeches draw a picture of what love is. It matters to become a good person because that is how we live a happy life: in english we have notion of friendship and a notion of love. We apply these to separate domains of relationships. We are apt to say that someone loves his or her parents: but is not friends with their parents. Love: in greek there is not a concept of love vs. friendship. Philia: usually translated as friendship, also considered a ectionate commitment one has towards parents and siblings and other family members, special obligations of caring.
