Document Summary

Physics 5a_ lecture 7_ forces and newton"s laws. Demos: demos dealing with inertia - the property an object has that resists changes in its motion, for example: pulling tablecloth away and leaving dishes intact i. You must pull the tablecloth away quickly in order for the inertia of the dishes to not be affected. b. Apply a fixed force (weight) or the force of a spring. Newton"s 1st law = law of inertia : Consider an object with no forces acting on it. If at rest, it will remain at rest. If it is moving with constant velocity, it will continue to move at constant velocity. This ideas was first put forward by galileo. Inertia is the property an object has to resist changes in its motion. Forces : ( any interaction that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object and cause an object with mass to change its velocity to accelerate.
