PHYSCI 107 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Middle Cerebral Artery, Anterior Cerebral Artery, Tissue Plasminogen Activator
Document Summary
Endothelial cells contribute to the blood brain barrier. Have ight juncions for selected transport (o2 and h2o can low through) Astrocyic end feet have water channels, control water balance. Two major arteries supply blood to the brain. Internal caroid artery branch that goes to brain, ascends into the brain. Anterior cerebral artery distributed on the mid sagital part. Middle cerebral artery supplies very large amount of the lateral surface of the brain. Majority of lateral surface of frontal lobe, parietal lobe and 2/3 of: vertebral/basilar arteries ascends to brain temporal lobe. Travels in the lateral part of the vertebrae. Opening where you have the spinal cord and brainstem. Right/let side converge and form basilar artery, coninue to ascend and form a branch on each side vvv. Posterior cerebral arteries supplies 1/3 of temporal lobe (inferior temporal) and the occipital lobe. Circulatory problems in the cns cause loss of corical funcion. Diferences between enire right vs. let cerebral artery strokes.
