Ischemia Dangers:
Patient isn’t always aware
Symptoms - poor circulation, becomes less , and patient doesn’t have idea, cause
whatever they’re getting feels like they’re getting enough but in reality, the cells are dying
and the problem with delivery of oxygen to cells, the cells start to die, we refer to concept
as ischemia
Blood brings oxygen and oxygen is important for energy
not enough O2 mean not enough energy and not enough means you die
Problem always happens in left anterior descending artery and right coronary artery
Notice how the blood vessels splits so that organization makes things worse, so the way
the blood flowers in blood vessel, that changes the flow
Watching the stream in the river - depending on how it branches
As fat travels in blood vessel, it rubs against the blood vessel - the flow of blood
has pressure - and that pressure fluctuates
Low pressure has less rubbing
High pressure = more rubbing and blood constantly rubbing in blood
vessels
Low pressure means little bit of rubbing and high pressure means
lots of rubbing
Every layer is important - extremely important in blood vessel - healthy blood vessel and that
layer has to be thin, must be smooth
Smooth edge so blood moves easily
Endothelial cells - the cells that make up the blood vessel
Layer of muscle - we call them smooth muscles
Smooth muscles are important in regulating diameter of blood vessels
Regulate for blood flow to tissue is not constant-- fluctuates depending on needs of
tissue
Tunica intima - layer in contact with the blood
Tunica media- Can increase when we need flow or decrease
○ Vasoconstriction
SM contracted and no NO
○ Vasodilation
sM contracted, NO
Want them to relax to deliver more oxygen
When referring to function -- also has to be super quick
Endothelial cells have lots of functions and control the diameter of the blood vessel
Smooth muscles contract - release important gas called nitric oxide
If epithelial cell is damaged, we lose ability to vasodilate - this is what heart diseases are
Problem in the blood vessels actually so when they are damaged, they lead to problem in the
blood vessel

Document Summary

Blood brings oxygen and oxygen is important for energy. Not enough o2 mean not enough energy and not enough means you die. Problem always happens in left anterior descending artery and right coronary artery. Notice how the blood vessels splits so that organization makes things worse, so the way the blood flowers in blood vessel, that changes the flow. Watching the stream in the river - depending on how it branches. As fat travels in blood vessel, it rubs against the blood vessel - the flow of blood has pressure - and that pressure fluctuates. High pressure = more rubbing and blood constantly rubbing in blood vessels. Low pressure means little bit of rubbing and high pressure means lots of rubbing. Every layer is important - extremely important in blood vessel - healthy blood vessel and that layer has to be thin, must be smooth. Endothelial cells - the cells that make up the blood vessel.
