Accesory organs (food physically doesn"t reach them, instead they release chemicals to the main organs) Within the digestive system, it all breaks down to. When there"s a car outside of the classroom, we have to disassemble it, bring it inside the room, and then assemble it. Bolus: a mix of saliva and food that is broken down in the mouth. To not choke our body has the epiglottis. The esophagus is a canal that makes food travel in a downward motion. Peristalsis: muscles relaxing to be able to make food travel down properly. Sphincter: a small ring of muscle that prevents food from going back up. Has a lot of smooth muscles to make sure that food is being mixed thoroughly.
