Current: biomedical model (body and mind are separate, all illness can be treated if we find correct drugs. Health is outcome of intricate interaction between bio, psychological and social factors. Once medication existed, able to treat diseases. Stressor: event or condition we view as threatening, challenging or overwhelming. Poverty, explosion test, feeling cold, loud noises. Appraisal: deciding on whether or not to view something as stressor. Stress reaction refers to any emotional and physical responses to the stressor such as rapid heartbeat, elevated cortisol levels (stress hormone) and crying. Stress is a process you participate in. Process includes stressor, appraisal, body response + coping strategies. Broken down components of stress allows for altering each factor. Mental + physical coping systems become overwhelmed + defeated.
