Module 14: developmental issues, prenatal development, and the newborn. Brain experiences some growth spurts like our body"s growth (childhood to puberty) Alcohol turns certain genes on or off fas. Fas - physical differences, learning problems, emotional differences, smaller in size. Newborns prefer their mother"s voice due to exposure to the sound in the womb. Babbling and cooing resemble the tones of the mother"s voice. Newborns that were exposed to annoying sounds (e. g. construction) in the womb may be less agitated than other babies that were not exposed to it. While human babies cannot walk/run right after they are born, they do have some reflexes. Reflexes are responses that are inborn and do not have to be learned. Reflexes help with nursing and make sure they get fed.
