PSYCH 100A Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Cumulative Frequency Analysis, Frequency Distribution, Infant Mortality
Document Summary
F = n f being the frequency of scores. Proportion: measures the fraction of the total group that is associated with each score. Add up the frequencies in a below each category. Interpret c% as the % of individuals accumulated once you reach the top of the column. Construction rules: table should have about 10 class intervals, width of an interval should be a whole number, bottom score should be a multiple of the width, all intervals should be the same width. Polygon: dot centered on top of bar to show corresponding vertical position on the plot according to the frequency, continuous line connecting the dots, across the whole x axis. Symmetric distributions mirror images on each side of a line drawn in the center: normal curve = bell curve = gaussian distribution, kurtosis the peakedness of a distribution. Platykurtic flatter/wider (not much of a peak); rolling hill. Mnemonic- platypus (long and flat, not tall)
