Parents should be careful not to overbook their children"s time. Which leaves less time for unstructured play and less time for meaningful family activities. Time for unstructured play allows children to express their personalities and learn ways in which to structure their own time. Parents can help their children select activities in which they can be successful by. Examining alternatives carefully considering the time commitment and competitive aspects of those activities. Parents need to carefully monitor and supervise leisure activities. Higher rates of problem behaviors are associated with low parental monitoring. Children from low socioeconomic families require more parental monitoring since they are less involved in adult-supervised organized activities due to. Fewer community opportunities, parental work schedules, and concerns about transportation safety to and from activities. Bullying is a serious problem for school-age children, harming both bullies and victims. Bullying is also a risk factor for future maladaptive behaviors.
