CFD 1220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: New Born
Document Summary
Emotions play a huge role in social relationships, exploration of the environment, and discovery of the self. As you grow older you develop a bigger understanding of emotions and how these emotions feel. There are four basic emotions we observe the most in babies: happiness, anger, sadness and fear. Infants show happiness when they achieve new skills, which displays delight in motor and cognitive mastery. New born babies will smile while sleeping, or if they are being touched and/or talked to by their mom/dad. That healthy/happy relationship between an infant and his or her parent(s) is important and fosters the infant"s developing skills. By the end of the first month, once the baby"s brain has developed a stronger sense for emotions you may find him or her smiling at dynamic, eye-catching sights. Also, once the infant is between 6 and 10 weeks, the parent"s communication evokes a grin called the social smile.
