Key ideas: human development is a joint function of person and environment. For example, if something happens in the microsystem it influences the macrosystem. Ecological theory - sociocultural view of development of environmental systems ranging from fine-grained inputs of direct interactions with social agents to broad-based inputs of culture. < based off of our inate (genetic differences) we all interact with the world differently. < for example, someone who is 38 years old, wears glasses, and has diabetes is going to interact with their world differently than someone who is a healthy 17 years old. In addition, the world (various systems) is going to interact with them differently. Or, a female interacts with the world differently than a male, and the opposite is true also. < each immediate social setting that surrounds and shapes an individual. < individuals interact most directly with agents in their microsystem. < microsystems do not need to interact with each other.
