Self-restraint against impulses can be built slowly and gradually: actual growth in brain gray matter as individuals build self-control. Willpower can be increased through exercise, balances nutrition, adequate sleep and quality time spent with others: willpower decreases during depression, anxiety, anger and loneliness, daily meditation develops our willpower muscle , rather than will power, skill power. Belief in one"s ability to perform a given task. Determines how you feel, think, behave, motivate yourself, make choices, set goals, and pursue courses of action. Mastery experiences: personal experiences with success and failure, considered the best contributor to self-efficacy. Vicarious experiences: role models, visual imagery of success and imitation. Positive verbal persuasion: more likely to try a task and believe you can get it done, negative verbal persuasion has a far greater effect in lowering. Psychological cues: feeling calm, relaxed vs anxious, nervous, least significant source of self-efficacy beliefs.
