This course considers law not in the form of judges, or legislators. Interested in how law resides in our imagination. Articulates values, ideals and concepts that most members of community share. Tend not to think critically about our imaginations. Most work through daily lives carrying values, ideas, and understandings but not with any depth or critique, just background info on how we live our lives. Only relationship defined by and according to law. Not parents, but also not strangers; sort of family. Slightly less exciting level, but engages same parts of brain. Law provides us with resources to understand people, relationships, and ourselves. How patterns of thought and discussion can be understood based on how we think/talk about the law. First influential narrative film ever made was the great train robbery. By thinking about how we use the law we reveal what we think the law is. For our purposes we will be concentrating on the first 2 exclusively:
