Importance : during the mesolithic period we see the process (changes) leading to the domestication of plants and animals. Involves very limited crop production, mainly migratory herds of animals. Economic production strategy concerned with the raising of livestock. The care, tending and use of animals by-products : milk, blood, meats, hides. Wild plants found in different ecological zones were being used primarily in those zones. Herds were protected from the effects of natural selection (ie. wolves and other predators) Brought into marginal areas, where they do not grow naturally. Mutually advantageous association between 2 different organisms. Selected plants and animals can no longer survive without humans due to genetic changes.
