Document Summary

Biology (the study of life) is a multidisciplinary science. Biology is a science the focuses on chemical/physical processes of an organism. Molecules and compounds form when atoms bonds to each other. Chemical bonds are based on unpaired valence electrons. The type of bond formed depends on the degree of electron sharing. Protons and neutrons are located in the nucleus. The mass number is the number of protons +neutrons in the nucleus of an atom. Forms of an element with different numbers of neutrons but the same number or protons are called an isotope. *** oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and carbon make up 96%of all living matter. *** the other 4% is made up of trace elements, or other highlighted elements. Electrons move around atomic nuclei in 3d regions called orbitals. Orbitals are grouped into levels called electron shells. The electrons in the outermost shell are called valence electrons. Ionic bonding electrons are transferred from one atom to another.
