Document Summary

Starts with an atom comes together to form a compound. If cells didn"t establish a membrane potential, we couldn"t function. Valence electrons are the only electrons that interact with other electrons in like or unlike atoms to create new potential substances. The number of unpaired electrons can pair. Ice, double and single covalent bonds, dna (has a flat and symmetrical symmetry, plain relationships, ladder structure, bc of hydrogen bonds you can twist) All atoms have electronegativity, attracts force between protons and electrons lends itself to electronegativity. Fluorine has the highest electronegativity, constantly grabbing other electrons and locks itself to it, too reactive to use. Difficult for cell to break the hold making fluorine useless: these atoms enable us to do everything we do today in different ways, magnesium is used in trace amounts. Covalent bond- electrons are associated with both atoms (shared relationship-each atom is sharing their electrons with the other atoms)
